Nantes and Liverpool have both chosen to remember the slave trade that has greatly contributed to their prosperity in the XVIIIth century, but in different ways.

Nantes opened a Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery in 2012. It is associated with exhibitions about city life at the time, at the Château des Ducs de Bretagne.

Liverpool International Slavery Museum opened in 2007. It is mainly dedicated to the slave trade and to its impact on the city. Yet, it also has a whole section about modern forms of slavery, with exhibitions that are regularly updated.
